Reading Levels

Guided Reading Level Chart

First Grade materials and our Media Center Bookroom (teachers may borrow sets of books to use with small reading groups) are both set up using the Fountas and Pinnell system
of A-Z letters for Guided Reading Levels (GRL).
A child's INDEPENDENT READING LEVEL indicates that the child reads 95% or more of the words in a selection correctly and comprehends what is read.
You can use the chart below to see at which level your child is reading.

Book Leveling Instructions For Scholastic's Book Wizard

Dear Parents,

Below are the directions for getting into the Book Wizard on the Scholastic website.

1. Go to www.scholastic.com/bookwizard/.

2. Change the leveling system to "Guided Reading (A-Z)".

3. You have 3 options.  You can either 1) enter a title, author, or keyword to find out the level of a specific book, 2) enter a title to find similar books, or 3) enter your child's reading level to find popular books at that specific level.

4. You can purchase some of these books through the website directly, or simply write down the titles and find them at the library.

Have fun reading with your child!
